Gene Anderson began working with Kids Alive in Taiwan at the Onesiphorus Children's Home in 1989. Two years later Gene and Shelly married and began working together at Onesiphorus. Gene teaches evening classes in Chinese typing and other computer skills to supplement the children's formal education. He also participates in the preaching and Bible teaching there.

Gene and Shelly have three children. Their oldest, William, is an engineer at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in Michigan. Whittaker and Genevieve both live in the Kankakee IL area. Whittaker has a career in farming and construction. Genevieve is a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Gene's interests include reading, Linux, and amateur radio. Shelly enjoys bird-watching and exploring Taiwan's natural beauty.
