Brian was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan to a loving mother and father who involved him in church life from childhood. At age 18, Brian joined the United States Marine Corps, and after 8 years of overseas military life, he returned to Michigan in 2010, open to God’s leading for whatever would come next. Then, in June 2015, he joined a church service team to the Oasis at Kids Alive Guatemala and built a playground to bless the abused and exploited girls that were rescued and brought to live and heal there.
Brian was deeply impacted as he watched the Kids Alive Guatemala staff heal, teach, empower, and pursue justice for the girls under their care using the word of God. Having struggled with PTSD from his service in Iraq, he recognized their trauma and was moved to help support their healing process. Brian is currently serving at all the Kids Alive facilities in Guatemala in construction and maintenance. He says, “I am ecstatic about this opportunity, and I just know that God’s work in Kids Alive is huge not only for the children all over the world but for people like me, that get to be a part of it!”
