Home to more than 10 million people, Dominican Republic is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. In United Nations-sponsored studies, the Dominican Republic routinely ranks last in Latin American education. More than a quarter of children do not complete primary school, just over half go on to secondary school, and fewer than 20% graduate from high school, so the possibility of a better future is remote for many.

Our flagship residential care facility in the Dominican Republic, the Ark had its beginning in a rented house and has been caring for orphaned and vulnerable children for over 30 years. It is a privilege to offer family-style homes with loving, attentive house parents, especially since so many of the children have lived through difficult and painful circumstances.

Six homes, a chapel, outdoor recreation spaces, and other facilities make up a vibrant campus that allows us to meet the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of every child. In addition, each child receives a quality education, and several of the Ark’s graduates are now studying in university. We currently serve 60 children, and we hope to welcome even more in the future as funding for growth becomes available.
